Darren Wilkinson, born 1981, live's in Sunderland (North East of England).
He first got into music from a very early age listening to various mixes, as well as creating his own on just a tape deck and basic Hi-fi system. He soon realised where his priorities lay and by the age of 14 bought his own belt drive decks. After learning the basics of beatmatching, he soon became interested in production. And, in 2002, Darren enrolled on a Music Technology course at City Of Sunderland College. This is where he began to learn all aspects of music including theory and studio based production.
After completing the course he then enrolled at Newcastle College, but this time on a Music Production course, which included the use of Cubase, Reason and Logic Pro software based studios. He is now currently working along side other producers and is hoping to have new releases out in the near future. He is constantly trying to push the Sunderland music scene with quality house music and has headlined at various nights within the city such as By Royal Appointment at Bar Pure. Aswell as playing, Darren also co-ran a night called Funk:tion @ Bar Pure (Sunderland) and had the pleasure of welcoming local and international djs to these events. Various names included, Jay C (Manchester & Ibiza) , The Beat Monkeys (Chibuku, Liverpool)! The Venue was even part of the Radio 1, One Big Weekend celebrations in 2005 and hosted the likes of Sander Kleinenberg, Pete Tong, Annie Mac and many many more.
Darren has recently been involved in the Launch of a brand new venue called Bar One and played alongside djs who have recently been to Dubai and L.A. 2009 has been a very good year for him and he came 1st in the Smirnoff Mixing It Up competition held at The Empress, Newcastle, which showcases the best up and coming DJs the North-East has to offer.
Finally, as 2009 comes to an end, Darren has been working alongside his friend and co-producer Graeme Willis to remix a track by New York producers Soulatronix and is looking forward to another better and bigger year ahead.
